How to prevent radon?

This is a 1 point system that will be exiting out of the sump and out throught the garage. Homeowner looking to have the stack run close to the corner of the house so it can tuck in behind the garage door that opens if possible. Then vent out through the back side of the roof. The team advised him that this would all be possible but we also need to have enough room to run pipe as well as add the fan. Client agreed and he will also be adding an ERV into the laundry room. Inlet for air will be in this room as there is a patio out back. Was up in the air on where they would like the exhaust to come out. Also looking to have air suction from inside the house to help with circulation. Radon levels were at a 30 so it was really suggested to mitigation. They were actually a super nice couple who were very understanding.

This home radon levels measured over a whooping 50 pCi/L. I mean there are still higher levels out there, but can you imagine that amount of radon exposure daily? I guess not. The clients had a home monitor, and they barely checked it. When the time came, they heard the news about radon, they were so worried. They just moved in a month ago with a 10-month-old baby girl. This was a 5-point system with the radon fan out the north wall behind their A/C unit.

Went over a few different design options with the clients who are extreme Hawkeye fans -- they settled on a sub slab extraction point in the finished closet of one of their kids in the basement. Room closest to the back patio. Installation was perfect!

Radon Remediation Done in Nevada, Iowa

This home had radon levels of 6.8 and a mostly-finished basement. The client was being proactive and vocal in the event of the house being sold in the future so a radon mitigation is one of his priorities to have done. They already have an ERV/HRV and electronic air filter. The sump pit with interior drain tile on front wall of house. They were a nice couple with two friendly dogs. I guess one will nip at your pants but they kept them leashed most the time I was there! Haha!

Radon Gas Remediation in Nevada, Iowa

The client, Paige was super nice and has a baking business from home and even gave the tech on duty a cupcake. She and her husband moved into house last fall. She did two charcoal test kits, one in finished space of basement was the result was between 3-5 in storage room with sump pits. At the end she expressed some concern on levels and we discussed proper testing location and the tech gave her a charcoal test kit and instructed the ideal way of testing. The two sump pits in were in an unfinished storage room. One has exterior drain tile and one has no tile. Install domed lids on both. The tech made a sub slab extraction point on side wall next to plumbing stack and route up and exit through rim joist along mid point in wall. The main concern was Paige has bad allergies and is sensitive to mold. The team checked and found out she had high humidity reading in her basement and advised to take action with the right service team. Paige was happy to know about this and satisfied how her system turned out!
